Het is ingedeeld als een World Heritage Site van de UNESCO in de “culturele landschap van Sintra”. Samen met andere paleizen in dit gebied (zoals de Pena, Monserrate en Seteais paleizen), is een van de belangrijkste toeristische attracties van Sintra.Het bestaat uit een romantisch paleis en kapel, en een luxe park met meren, grotten, putten, bankjes, fonteinen, en een breed scala aan exquise constructies. Het paleis is ook bekend als “Paleis van Monteiro de Millionaire”, uit de bijnaam van de eerste eigenaar, António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro.

Quinta da Regaleira is an estate located near the historic center of Sintra, Portugal. It is classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO within the “Cultural Landscape of Sintra”. Along with other palaces in this area (such as the Pena , Monserrate and Seteais palaces), it is one of the principal tourist attractions of Sintra. It consists of a romantic palace and chapel, and a luxurious park featuring lakes, grottoes , wells, benches, fountains, and a vast array of exquisite constructions. The palace is also known as “Palace of Monteiro the Millionaire”, from the nickname of its first owner, António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro . Source Opening hours
Sintra is afgeleid van Cynthia

Wapen van Sintra
De naam Sintra is afgeleid van het Keltische woord Cynthia dat Maan betekent. Rond 300 v.Chr stond in dit gebied een Keltische maantempel. Toen de Moren het gebied in de 8e eeuw innamen, noemden zij de streek Chintra of Zintira. Dit omdat de letter S niet door hen gebruikt werd.
